Re: Reunion

Paul,
Sounds good that you are working on a plan. Have you looked at Silversides in Michigan or Manitowok?

Frenchy

Re: Reunion

I'm soliciting for info from those areas also.

My concern for both sites is for shipmates that will travel by air & the # flights (stops) that will be required.

Chicago is at least 3 hrs drive to Manitowoc, maybe 4hrs to Muskegon. There are closer airports for those sites Milwaukee & Grand Rapids, but might require additional stops for some.

Re: Reunion

I'm ready for any site. I will be driving so no problem where.
Paul, put the PR-60 back in the set and let me know what it shows.

Someone please explain PR-60 to me. You got me there.

Re: Reunion

Paul,
A PR-60 is a tube that go's in the radar set in the conn. Are you sure you were an ET???

Re: Reunion

Skip,

You got me on that one. I WAS an ET, but "N" type schooled in COMMUNICATIONS. But on those boats RM's took care of their own gear so we ended up in the radar field.

It was much learning by doing, trial & error, & advancement exams were all on COMM gear, not RADAR, to make things interesting.

PR60 was more like TR60 as I could not find anything on PR60. The purpose of the TR (transmit - receive) type tube was to block RF signal to the receiver set during the time that the radar was transmitting.

Re: Reunion

Paul,
Thanks for straightening me out. I was just pulling your leg.
I'll see you at the reunion.

Re: Reunion

Little Rock, Mooring place of the Razorback, has an Air Port.

Just Sayin...

I was looking there also, but was turned off by the potential for unfriendly weather & heat. But I will add that to the mix also.

Re: Reunion

Shipmates:

On page 31 of the 3rd Quarter, 2017 issue of "American Submariner" there is an advertisement posted by the Arkensas Inland Maritime Museum soliciting Boat reunions. This is the home of the U.S.S. Razorback (SS-394) in Little Rock. Take a look. We may not be a large enough group to be of value to us but it's worth a look. Little Rock does have a fairly significan air port as well.

Re: Reunion

I hear 'ya.

I was hoping to pick a time for a reunion where weather & travel was not a concern.

Late Spring / early summer is what I am thinking is a good time. School should be closed, daytime temperatures should not be unsettling, and snow should have already melted & or piled neatly out of the way.

Tornadoes & hurricanes frighten me & I was trying to steer clear of any part of the country that MIGHT potentially be affected at that time.

I'm not ruling it out but rather expressing my thought as to why it is not high on my list now.

Re: Reunion

Just a passing though that I thought worth sharing. Actually Little Rock is not known for violent weather.

Re: Reunion

I have to agree with Paul. I'm to "OLD" to fight the weather. Paul, keep searching for the best place. Where every it is, I'm behind you 100%.

Re: Reunion

Paul, and all,

I had a friend visit the Cod in Ohio. He said it was one of the best
preserved boats he had seen. if the reunion is in Ohio or Wisconsin, I would also like to visit at least the Silversides in Michigan. Silversides was the first submarine I visited when it was a reserve training boat at State Pier in Chicago in 1958.
