After some deliberation I think we NEED another SS-407 reunion for no other reason than it's been a long time since we had one.
I have no SPECIAL reasons for selecting CLE other than it seems to be centrally located for many of our SHIPMATES and has easy access to a major airport 15 miles away. Also there is a WWII MUSEUM BOAT, USS COD SS-224, that is available for visits and has offered to help us with some on-site activity while there.
I've emailed the director of the museum to find out what activities they plan or ones that we can participate in. There are a few major tourist sites there, R&R HOF, Great Lakes Museum, etc. I also hear of a local casino close-by the hotel.
I have been in touch with this hotel in the area and they seem to want to work with us in regards to room rates, hospitality room, etc that we normally have. I'm working through the contract details with their representative now. There are a couple of other restaurants close by.
We are lucky also to have a SHIPMATE in that area, John Burke QM3(SS) 1964-66, who is familiar with the hotel and has offered to be our "boots on the ground". He already has made one site visit.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts/concerns.
EVERYONE have a safe THANKSGIVING DAY with your families.
Our ASSOC Chaplain will be mailing Christmas Greeting again this year and he suggested that this notice, or something similar should be included with the card. Good call Howard Dachs!
Frenchy has been in contact and offered his support and suggestions for this project. One thing that we both agree is that we should have a reunion regardless of how many show up. But I think that we can get enough to make it a great gathering once again.
Wishing ALL my SHIPMATES an enjoyable Thanksgiving with family & friends.
Either Bravenet has updated their bulletin board format or you selected a different option.....
My grandson is getting married in May and I will be going up to New York for that wedding. When is the proposed reunion.....
I'd LIKE to conduct the reunion during the 1st or 2nd week in JULY. At present I'm trying to find out if USS COD MUSEUM has anything special planned for the 4th that we, as a group, could be involved with.
