NEW SHIPMATE REPORTING ABOARD - Dan May

I received this email from a former SHIPMATE and found it very interesting. It's the first I heard of this event. I think he resides in Santa Monica (unconfirmed) & am waiting for further info from him:

Hello,
I was a crew member on Sea Robin when the After Battery caught fire. Lt Smarz was the Diving Officer - who had the boat in such perfect trim
that we sat at the depth we were at till the emergency underwater telephone was up for the captain to contact the destroyers operating over us
to get out of the way so we could surface. The boat filled with smoke and we could barely breath till the hatch was opened and the fire was
put out and the electric thru out the boat turned back on.
If we had not been in such good trim we would have sunk and all would have been lost.

Re: NEW SHIPMATE REPORTING ABOARD - Dan May

Paul,
When I was first aboard USS Pargo SSN 650 in 1971 we had a ST Chief aboard named Dan May. He left not too long after
I joined the crew. It seems we had a couple of ST Chiefs at that time. He was probably on Pargo for the ICEX under the Pole.

Frenchy,

If I hear back from him I'll check that out. It looks like he is a RE broker in the LA area.
