HOWARD DACHS ICFN(SS) 1962-63 - On Eternal Patrol

Several months back we started wondering about Howard and that we had not heard from him in a while, and efforts to contact him through various channels were unsuccessful. Mike Donavon, French, Klausen, and myself tried multiple times each.

We knew they had several children and a search was started to track any of them down in order relay our concern.

Finally Klausen made contact with his son David with the following results:

Very nice to hear from. I'm afraid I have sad news. Howard past away in December. He was not feeling well about 10 days before, and he had a heart attack. He had major blockage in three arteries. It was very sudden, and I still can not believe it happened. Monica is doing well. She is staying with my wife and I. I'm sorry, I was not able to notify everyone. The Sub Vets meant a lot to him. You were all his brothers. I will share your message with Mom.

Thank you!

David Dachs

I have to add here that HOWARD was a very dedicated shipmate to his USS Sea Robin Shipmates over the past 11 years since the Charleston reunion where he approached me and offered his services to our Association.

We are going to miss Howard and his unselfish service.

Sailor Rest Your Oar.

A lot of Great Memories of this Shipmate. He slept in the after room right next to the stern planes motor. Excellent shipmate and and even better Friend. Sailor rest your oar. Slow hand salute

Howard was a Great guy and friend. we had been communicating via e-mail since he lived in Vermont.
We shared our interest in the shooting sports and reloading along with political interests.

Sailor, Rest your oar, we have the watch.

Re: HOWARD DACHS ICFN(SS) 1962-63 - On Eternal Patrol

Howard was a quiet shipmate with a good sense of humor, a pleasure to be around. I enjoyed serving with him on the Robin and being with him at the reunions. He will be missed!
