Worming for tapeworms/Breeding

Would it be okay to worm a female that you were going to breed next week ? Feel like tapeworm medicine is stronger than some worm medicine. Does it linger. Would anyone know how safe ? Just noticed. Help !

Re: Worming for tapeworms/Breeding

I recently discovered tapeworms in a female that had been bred two weeks prior. When I ask my vet whether it was safe to worm her with Droncit he replied "Not necessary to do anything; tapeworm infestation will not hurt a health dog". I was a bit surprised, but glad that I didn't have to medicate.

Re: Worming for tapeworms/Breeding

No problem, I had to do it several years ago. It is not really that strong, Dronsit disolves the protective shell on the worm and the digestive tract does the rest.

What about using Panacur and Safeguard on pregnant girls ?

Re: Worming for tapeworms/Breeding

Fenbendazole is suppose to be safe to use on pregnat and nursing moms. But I dont like to use any chemicals during that time. I wait to worm mom when I worm pups at 6 weeks.
