Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I've had some experience with using Clone kits in the past, but am never happy to deal with those folks - they are just plain rude! BUT rudeness aside, I'd like to use the best kit possible, so I am interested in folks opinions regarding which kit (Camelot or Clone) you choose to use and why? Pros & cons of each?

TIA!!

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I have used Camalot farms and CLONE. I prefer CLONE. They have the best extender. You can order online if you prefer not to speak to anyone. I happen to like a little zip in my salsa. We used to go through them to time our breedings and I tell you what we never missed.

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I have used Clone 3 times in a row, 3 pregnant girls.
In one case Fed Ex lost the shipment for a day, semen was still okay and pregnancy resulted so I think their extender must be pretty good.
I have not experienced any rudeness when I have called fortunately.

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I've been using Camelot for years with no complaints.
Heck one of my boys has just sired 24 puppies total in two litters using Camelot extender. I don't have a problem with Clone, just that Camelot is easier, user friendy, and I order it online. They both get the job done. It's your choice.

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

Another option is ICSB-we used their Puppy Pak kit and we had 11 pups.

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I like the Camelot box for Southern California shipments as it is so well insulated I have had the cold packs still semi-frozen after 3 days.
I have had success with Camelot and Clone extenders both.

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I just have to say I had to recently deal with CLONE and they were very polite. I ordered online, but didn't get the confirmation email so I had to call them. The person I talked to (man) told me they didn't get the order and to try again. I ordered again and he called and told me they got it that time. Then when he couldn't get the kit out until the next day, he called again and apologized.

I was a bit apprehensive when learning that the stud owner preferred CLONE after reading here how nasty the people can be. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. They were very nice.

Re: Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I have also tried to order via their web site twice with no luck! When I called they were VERY, very rude! When I explained that I was having problems using their site they YELLED at me saying "do you know anything about running a business" and "that the problem is yours"! Due to my problem using their site I wanted to place my order via the telephone, they absolutely refused to accept my order via the phone and were NASTY and RUDE!!

Also, when asked if their web site server is a secure sever they tell you that it is...but I don't see the lock box on my browser which indicates a secure server for ordering. So I don't believe them.....

From now on Camelot will get my business and when asked I will certainly tell other breeders about my negative experiences with this Co.!

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I have had wonderful success with the Camelot extender. The new Mini-Tube boxes and extender are also fantastic. Mini-Tube extender is just a little more work on the stud dog owners end, but when I need longer shipping life (5-7 days) it's the product I use. Both have provided me with fantastic customer service.

Re: Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

From what I understand about Mini-Tube as well is that you would be able to split the collection, send it at once and not have to worry about weekends and holidays or a progesterone stall messing up the AI.

Re: Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I have always used ICSB or Camelot extender and boxes but I have just found a new company called Canine Express. I purchased two boxes from them and they look pretty good. Not sure about their extender. I experimented by putting some semen in the box just like I was going to ship, let it sit on my counter for two days then looked at the semen under the scope. It was alive and kicking. Just a little unsure about using it for the first time since others have worked so well. The boxes are nice though. The boxing part is the advantage that I see over others. Has anyone else used this company?

Re: Survey on Chilled Semen Kits??

I had never looked at this (do not use the company)

This page is absolutely *not* secure:
http://www.cloneusa.com/Order%20Payment%20Form.htm

Note the url is not https (note the "s" for secure), nor do you see any secure icon on the page. Using this order form is an invitation for some hacker to have a field day with your credit card. It takes them about three minutes to clean your account out.

Guess what, folks... this site's checkout is also not secure:
http://www.camelotfarms.com/

If anyone is this lax with their online ordering, you can assume that over the phone orders likely result in them inputting your CC info into their own computers, and one must wonder if they have no idea about online security, they may not have a clue about business computer security.

This site absolutely uses secure ordering:
http://exodusbreeders.com

All you have to do is walk through the site to the checkout basket, and you will see that your URL now says https, the URL address line is yellow, and you see lock icons on the page.

As for me, I have ordered extender from Camelot Farms over the phone, and never even looked at their online order form. I always ask that my CC info is not kept in their computers, however, now I must ponder if they're safe enough for my taste. However, I love their extender. I had to laugh at an impromptu test I did. A friend (Vet)is interested in getting more into the reproduction side of things. I collected my 10 year old male, and extended with some *old* extender I had (very old) in the freezer. Note.. old dog, old extender. She took it with her and put it in the fridge at work. She watched it for days. On day 10 (yes you read right -- 10!!) she called. She said..okay, these guys couldn't inseminate anything anymore (no forward movement at day 10), but they're still wiggling! Not bad for an old dog and old extender!

I use this company for my equipment:

Their checkout is also secure. I've been very happy with their services.
