Satin Balls!!

Does anyone know where I can get the recipe for Satin balls, I seem to have misplaced mine!!!

The typical recipe:

10 pounds hamburger meat [the cheapest kind]
1 lg. box of Total cereal [or comparable natural brand]
1 lg. box oatmeal
1 jar of wheat germ
1 1/4 cup veg oil
1 1/4 cup of unsulfured molasses
10 raw eggs
10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients together, much like you would a meatloaf.

Divide into 10 quart freezer bags and freeze.

Thaw as needed.

Another way to make them:

5 cups Total Cereal
2 cups Karo Syrup
2 cups Molassas
5 lbs. Hamburger
5 lbs. Kibble (hi protein)
20 packs unflavored gelatin
20 Egg Yolks
1 cup Wheat Germ
1 cup Oatmeal

Mix all ingrediants together in a large bowl. When thoroughly mixed, mold into torpedo shapes.

....and what is the purpose of these again? Did someone say previously that they are supposed to add weight or am I way off?

They are used for weight gain, they also make excellent snacks for snaking on the trail with the sled dog team

I have a friend who uses them when dog showing because her dogs tend to not eat when they travel. Also when her girls are in heat her boy goes on a diet and this is the only thing he will eat.

I believe Satin Balls was originally named after a dog. Can't remember which breed. Here is a link for further information about the recipe. You can google search for the recipe also (satin balls).....some breeders have modified the recipe to meet the needs of their dogs.

Correct, they are not cooked.

I have also found the best way to store them is by using "press and seal" instead of ziplock bags.
