I have a question.

In breeding we have all had “outside ties’ or “slip ties”.

My question is what is the difference between these types of ties and an AI?

Logically speaking it seems similar to me since there is no tie with an AI either and the semen is deposited without a natural tie.

The difference is one is natural and the other is not. Granted I am no expert, but breedings happen without a tie.

I think the difference is WHO is depositing the semen...daddy dog (NATURAL) or Mr/Mrs Vet or Breeder (AI).

So an AI would be the same thing except who deposits the semen?

No, they are not the same! In an outside tie you may or may not get all the sperm inside--some of it may go on the ground. It is also being deposited at the opening to the vulva or vagina and not into the vagina near the cervix. Also, you are not getting any prostatic fluid deposited that moves the sperm up into the uterus. In a good AI, you would collect both all the sperm and a considerable quantity of prostatic fluid and deposit them in what we call the cranial vagina (or fowardmost part) near the cervix which is the opening into the uterus where the eggs are awaiting! Big difference....
