Pet Insurance?

I have puppy buyers asking me to refer them to puppy insurance companies. I have never insured any of my dogs and wondered if any one does insure and who they could recommend?

Re: Pet Insurance?

Owners need to research each option thoroughly to see which one meets their needs. Personally, I am more concerned with a catastrophic event that results in high veterinary bills than I am with routine visits. I can handle the expected vaccinations, tests, heartworm test and medication, etc. It is the unexpected event that would cost thousands that worries me.

Re: Re: Pet Insurance?

I have VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) and have been amazed at how much they pay for claims and how fast they respond. I went with the serious coverage and the cancer rider. and skipped the coverage for routine things like vaccinations. Last year they reimbursed me for two claims that combined totaled more than the cost of the premium. Their website is my.petinsurance.com

Re: Pet Insurance?

I used to have the pet insurance on my labs, and thank goodness they have always been healthy. When I sat and figured out how much I had been paying for the monthly/yearly premium, and hopefully if I never had to use it, the cost was way into the 1,000's. After much thinking, I opened up a savings account in which I put the monthly premium into. In the chance that we do have to use it, it is there (it may not cover all, but it will help) But....if we don't have to use it, the money will always be there.
