Hi, A friend of my just found out that her bitch has giardia. She is treating it,but her concern is that she is nursing 6 day old puppies. Is there any precautions she should be taking? What are the chances of it spreading to the puppies? What effect would giardia have on puppies/how ill will it make them? Thanks for any info, we are both worried. She is keeping in contact with her vet, whom we trust completly, but some first hand information would be great.

They will probably get diarhea, but they are too young to treat yet.
I find litters usually get it between 4-6 weeks of age.
Then they can be treated.
If they are not treated, they will not grow - at least this is what I have been told.
