Speaking of Frozen Questions

Can you do an normal AI with thawed frozen or does it have to be an implant or TCI?

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

I have done two vaginal inseminations with frozen semen, both successful, litters of 9 & 10.

Re: Re: Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

You will certainly increase your chances for success if you do an implant.

The semen we used was from an older dog, collected and frozen at around 9 years. It looked fabulous when collected and just as great when we thawed it to use. So it was in really good shape and we decided to see how it would do vaginally. This may not be the same result with all frozen samples however.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

I had a total of 3 frozen semen breedings (all produced pups) and all thawed frozen AI's. 2 were very good sized litters, one was smaller. Just remember the window of time is much smaller with frozen than with chilled or fresh semen and you have to time it very carefully.

I haven't done any surgical implants so I can't comment on those. All I can say is if you do thawed frozen AI's make sure you have that window of time right down to the hour literally.

You might want to speak to a repro specialist regarding it for their input.

Best of luck no matter what way you decide to go.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

Do you need the same amount of semen for surgical implant as for vaginal? For some reason I was thinking you could stretch the frozen further if you did implants.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

Glad some one asked this question. So how quickly will it thaw out and I take it must stay in the fridge. or can ya pop it in the ole microwave. haha just kidding

Re: Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

When I have used frozen the thawing method is with a warm water bath. Then the bitch is immediately inseminated. Frozen semen doesn't live as long as fresh so once thawed it is imperative to get it right in to your girl whether doing vaginal insemination, trans cervical or an implant.

why do you have to be so stupid Diane...if you have nothing intelligent to say...keep it to yourself.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

haha fed up your so funny hope your having a better day today. Or perhaps you might stop hiding behind your fake name and use your real name.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

Actually Fed up not sure why . You thought my post was so terrible. There is alot of newbies out here. And alot of people who look but don't post.

Which I'm not a newbie.I post sometimes for myself,But I might also post a question thinking some else might be thinking the same thing needing an answere.

There might be people out there thinking the quick way to thaw that semen is to pop it in the microwave. I guess you think everyone is perfect and people don't do dumb Stuff. Get real there are plenty.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

Diane, don't feel bad or feel stupid for asking. People who have to try to belittle others must have pretty low self esteem. With so many harboring rage, agressive drivers, etc., I wonder if those same people actually confront others face to face with that same attitude.

I never did a frozen, so I sure as heck don't know the procedure for thawing. I guess I'd find out before planning to do one, but nothing wrong with asking about it on the forum.

Re: Speaking of Frozen Questions

Thanks.Yep I have never done a frozen either. And have had questions. So now I know about how to thaw it out.And that it must be used ASAP.I always thought it needed to implanted.Learn something everyday
