How much for ultrasound?

How much does it cost at your vet for an ultrasound of a pregnant bitch?

Re: How much for ultrasound?

$35 for a pregnancy confirmation; no "office exam" charge on that.

Re: Re: How much for ultrasound?

the place that i work charges i think $130 for the ultra sound, and if you are not a cli. with us then its $54 for an exam as well.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

That is horrible . I would have to go to the vet with the least price for this after all it is not an invasive procedure. My vet charges $25.00 for an x-ray 5 days before due date and if you can't wait an ultrsound is the same plus the office visit of $25.00.
I am so glad we have a reasonable vet here and also a very good one to boot he gives up nights and weekends for his clients and holidays to and he does not charge extra either for this. I am so happy I live in the Bonnies. LOL Also people come from all over to have hip and elbows done at my vet because total cost including he pays for the mailing you just sign the OFA cards, and paying OFA $185.00 for all that is it he is so good to all the people that go to him.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

Are you ready... I paid $289... its no wonder I am broke!!!

Re: How much for ultrasound?

I think I'm paying $40 today to get a girl I co-own her Ultra Sound. I didn't make the appointment so I'm not sure but I know last time I was in there it was $40.

Our Gal is really good with Ultra Sound and I've got my fingers crossed we see some puppies.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

We paid $60 for our last ultrasound.

Re: Re: How much for ultrasound?

$25, wow.
my work charges $80 for an xray.

Re: Re: How much for ultrasound?

$40.00 in southern Idaho - just the US - doesn't include the office call - but the vet that I use leaves that up to the owner. If you just want the US you can skip the office call. If you want him to do a quick eval of the bitch - then add on the office call $30.00 - so $70.00 total.

I usually just get the US as my regular vet doesn't have an US machine. My regular vet following my bitch's care during gestation.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

Now maybe we can all be more understanding of why people charge different prices for their pups. Some areas of the U.S. are very expensive places to be a dog enthusiast!!!

Re: How much for ultrasound?

$60 here for Ultrasound (in Canada)

btw, my boy's OFA were almost $400 when they were done, and my vet that i have now charges approx $250.
Penn Hip for my boy was $259- now the price is $300.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

$96.50 for a pregnancy ultrasound here in St. Louis. Any follow-ups are free.

Re: Re: How much for ultrasound?

Southern New Hamshire- I paid $35.00 for an ultr sound to check for pregnancy. Xrays before delivery are 45.00, no charge for an office visit with either.

"Are you ready... I paid $289... its no wonder I am broke!!!"

Ditto Christina.

And without looking at my records I paid about $125 for x-rays prior and again after whelp.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

I would die! Patty cheaper to buy your own machine and make payments to the company and take a course in learning how to do it , CHARGE your friends and pay that bugger off in no time LOL!

Re: How much for ultrasound?

Patty and I use the same vet and are in the same area within less than 2 miles. That is the going rate here and since our vet went into a new, larger, beautiful facility it goes upwards from there I am quite sure. Someone has to pay for his pricey move that was much needed (btw that xray machine was VERY old.)

Same vet (in the breed and expanding now with his own pregnant bitch at the moment and a male being show by his g/f in veterinary school) quoted me $350- $400 per organ on an exam via ultrasound when my oldest girl was diagnosed with cancer in two organs at an older age this past Nov. I lost her the next day, never had the chance to spend the money but that is the going rate here unfortunately and probably in other areas of the east coast.

He's a great all around vet but going to specialists or ER clinics hikes the price even more so. Patty's been there with Miya with an ER vet for weeks, great job but very pricey and worth it to save her lovely girl.

I believe this coincides with the cost of puppies here, much higher expenses in all areas.

Patty, want to split an u/s machine and we can hire our own tech to do them or try ourselves? (I've done my own pelvic ultrasounds on rare occasion years ago.) If we had more pregnant bitches it would be well worth it, with the 1 litter a year each at the most I don't know. I have connections in the human medical field to do so, will inquire about a used one. j/k or maybe not?

I have done the same as Patty in the past, xray prior and after whelping and leave the ultrasounds be for now.

The best of luck.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

Carolyn, no kidding! Not a bad idea.

I will say that my vet has a tech that comes in to specifically do ultrasound bringing the machine with her so maybe that is why it is more costly. Also, my ultrasound was not to determine pregnancy but to look for problems in a sick dog but still only took about 5-10 minutes to perform.

Re: How much for ultrasound?

Well, I am trained in thermal ultrasound for my practice, I am sure I could learn the other kind! Hey wasnt it Tom Cruise that bought an US machine for Katie LOL Maybe your on to something patty!

Re: How much for ultrasound?

My girl had her ultra sound today and it cost me $40.00. I also had to pay a $15.00 office fee. But we got a pregnancy confirmed!!! I loved seeing little heartbeats.
