I just got one of those phone calls we all dread - "I just got a puppy, when can I breed her..." Yes, this puppy was "won" at an auction and well, you all know the story that goes along with that. I put on my "educator's cap" and told him about health clearances, training, joining a local dog club and all the things that SHOULD be done before even thinking about breeding this dog, but did it sink in? I don't know, kind of doubt it. I guess I can be thankful that he IS calling and asking questions. This guy has never even owned an intact dog (and before you ask, yes, she was sold on OPEN registration) At one time I think Dian (Welle) had an article on her website about all the things that can go wrong in whelping and puppies, etc. I checked her site and don't see it (I think it used to be under "soapbox"). Dian (if you are reading this) can you or someone forward that to me or tell me where I can locate it or something similar? I REALLY want to open this guy's eyes and yes, I WANT to scare him! I can say that I really think he wants to do everything right and after going through what a heat cycle is like, he did ask me at what age would be appropriate to spay her. I just want to drive the point home. Thanks everyone!
I think this is the one you were talking about:
