Puppy back in lieu of stud fee

Just wondering if there's a protocol for a puppy back in lieu of stud fee. Where does the stud dog owner stand on the list of puppy buyers?

Re: Puppy back in lieu of stud fee

You would need to talk with the breeder who would be using your stud dog. There are as many variations with this situation as there are co-owns.
Some breeders allow 2nd pick and call it even. Others allow 2nd pick and charge you the difference between the stud fee and the fee they charge for a puppy if it is less. Some will do the same as just stated but allow 1 st pick because they don't plan on keeping a puppy from that particular litter but have a waiting list of pet people to sell the pet quality pups to. The list goes on and on for possibilities. And I would suggest getting everything in detail in writing.
Good luck!

Before using a stud dog the bitch owner should negotiate an agreement with the bitch owner. Usually pick puppy is the stud owner choice unless other arrangments are made

Re: Puppy back in lieu of stud fee

These days, there is NO protocol for any stud fee, co-ownership, or other transactions. It ends up being a personal agreement between the parties, and whatever they can both agree on that works for them. A stud fee can be $0 and up, as can the cost of a puppy. Just PUT IT IN WRITING.
