OT: Movement to have AKC move Euk Challenge out of Long Beach needs your support

crossed-post with permission from another list:

The swing votes yesterday in the passage of AB 1634 by the California
Assembly came from two Long Beach Democrats: Karnette & Richardson. They
obviously think "their dog show", the AKC/Eukanuba Nationals, will not
be affected by passage of AB 1634. We need to prove them wrong.

Long Beach is not a dog-friendly place. It had a ban on dog breeding
for thirty years (reluctantly changed in 2005) and it still severely
restricts breeders' rights. Now Long Beach's elected officials openly
support AB 1634, legislation that will end dog shows and hobby breeding
in California. Long Beach needs to pay the price for electing such
offensive lawmakers.

We want ALL dog clubs, in every state, to adopt a resolution asking AKC
to withdraw the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship show from Long
Beach. Even if we ultimately defeat AB 1634, Long Beach has proven yet
again that it is not a place to bring your show dog. All they want is
our money. AKC should permanently cancel the Nationals in Long Beach.

Please ask your club to pass the following resolution:

"By openly supporting California AB 1634, lawmakers elected by the
citizens of Long Beach, California have demonstrated their disdain for
dog fanciers and breeders everywhere. The AKC/Eukanuba National
Championship show (Nationals) provides huge economic benefits to the
citizens of Long Beach who repay our largesse by supporting draconian
animal rights legislation that severely limits the rights of dog lovers.

Resolved, we the request the American Kennel Club to withdraw the
Nationals from Long Beach and to move the event to a more dog-friendly
venue outside the state of California. If AKC does not move the
Nationals from Long Beach, we will encourage the members of our club to
boycott future Nationals in Long Beach as a statement of opposition to
the treatment accorded by Long Beach and the state of California to dog
fanciers everywhere."

Then forward a copy of the resolution, on club letterhead, to your
national breed club and to AKC. Send a copy to the the Long Beach
Convention center and to Eukanuba.

Every owner of an AKC registered dog should also send a personal letter
to AKC (with copies to the Long Beach Convention Center and Eukanuba)
requesting that the Nationals be moved from Long Beach. If enough of us
act now, AKC will understand our urgency and, perhaps, the California
Senate will get the message that we will do what it takes to fight this
reprehensible legislation.

I agree 100%. Money talks. And they need to learn they cannot $%&* with us!

Maybe hitting them where it hurts- their pocketbooks- is the best way to get their attention.

Re: OT: Movement to have AKC move Euk Challenge out of Long Beach needs your support

This is certainly being considered by the AKC:

All the member clubs need to make their voices heard!

I sure hope they move it out of Long Beach and into South Beach!
