Do you give a bitch anything special to help with hydration during and/or after wheping? Pedialyte or similar product? I've noticed they sell special rehydration products in some of the dog catalogs.

Just water, but if she seems like she should be drinking and she isn't, I keep chicken broth around to tempt her to drink more.

Diluted beef or chicken bouillon or broth with some premium canned food soaked and mixed in it give a nutrional yet hydrating boost during whelping here.We never see it turned down bout halfway thru whelping and usually another puppy is born within 30 minutes after.

The only thing I've been able to tempt my girls with when they are whelping and right afterwards is Vanilla Icecream and Plain Yogurt. As long as you haven't supplemented calcium before your bitch was bred and during her pregnancy, the extra ice cream and yogurt will help with dehydration and give her extra energy to finish whelping, barring any other complications.
