Raised Feeding Bowl

I use raised feeding bowls and thought I was doing the right thing to reduce the risk of bloat. According to this study, raised feeding bowls actually increased the risk of bloat in the large breed dogs used in this study (this page does not list the breeds studied). Should I go back to putting their bowls on the floor? What is everyone doing?

Re: Raised Feeding Bowl

We do slightly raised bowls. Their heads still tilt down when they eat...but they are not eating off he ground. Never had even a hint of bloat.

Re: Raised Feeding Bowl

I used to use raised feeders, but do not any longer. I have seen that Perdue study before. The other thing I found interesting in it is that exercise was not found to be linked to bloat.

Re: Re: Raised Feeding Bowl

I've heard it both ways. We use elevated bowls, and havn't had a problem all these years.

A friend of mine just had her dog bloat and die after spending the day in the outdoor run
