I use crate pads from LL-Bean. You'll find them where their hunting supplies are. They are about 2" thick and made from water resistant hunter green, heavy canvas. The XL size fits a 36" crate. I use them in my car crates too for after the dogs swim. Remember...anything made by LL-Bean is guaranteed for life!
They bunch up the heavy pads and lay on the bare floor - it's cooler, so I use old pieces of the fake sheepskin and they scratch it into a ball and use it as a pillow.
These sound like what I have been looking for but I can't find them on their website...
