Males and females great producers

That were never a Champion. Many, many great dogs added so much but for one reason or the other never got a championship. Lots do not and who cares. But there have been many males and females that added so much to lines. Lets see.

I agree, a lot of great dogs were never champions....as I say, showing is my hobby, if the dog doesn't enjoy it, he doesn't have to do it....and I've seen quite a few dogs over the years that were champions that shouldn't have been...

Re: Males and females great producers

One bitch that comes to mind was Cobb's Yellow Frenzy. She produced many lovely Champions.

Those that spring to mind immediately for their seminal influence on the breed are:

SANDYLANDS BRAMBLE behind most of the best Sandylands today. Dam of Sh.Chs. Royal Escort and My Guy and granddam of the breathtaking Sh.Ch. Bliss. Bliss's famous offspring, Sh.Chs. Gababout and Gracia, were line bred to her. Gadabout is sure leaving his legacy through offspring like Gallivant, Ginantonic, Gale Force, Gadding Around and many others.

POOLSTEAD PRETENTIOUS AT ROCHEBY, never shown but sired many champions which are good producers in their own rights. Just in his matings to the lovely Sh.Ch. Rocheby Acorn, he produced champions like Popcorn, Royal Oak, Ripling Corn, Rolling Stone, Whisky Mac and Polkadot. Polkadot mated to Navy Blue (double Royal Oak) produced one of today's most influential stud dogs: ROCHEBY OLD SMOKEY... yet another dog for the list of non-titled top producers.

I'd like to see CANNONRIDGE JACKDAW in the list. Sire of the sisters, Sh.Chs. Cuanbank Island Mist & Maggie May at Foulby, Sh.Ch. Keydella Classique, Sh.Ch. Frostfire Dawn Chorus at Abbeystead (a personal favourite) and Ch. Fabracken Meadow Mint. He can be found in many pedigrees today.

Re: Re: Males and females great producers

Really good ones. You are sure right about those first two being back there in alot of good pedigrees.

Re: Males and females great producers

I also thought immediately of Cobb's Yellow Frenzy, Dianne. She was not the prettiest bitch around, but boy did she produce gorgeous dogs, particularly males.
Another one of that time, that figures in a lot of pedigrees is Sailin's Cedarwood Pride, who was foundation bitch for many nice, nice Cedarwood dogs, again, especially males.
I have had some nice bitches in my past (and present) that, while nice themselves, seem to produce very strongly, and better than themselves.
I would take a prepotent, beautiful bitch line any day! Breeding to the right stud dog can be a challange with a strong bitch line; if you breed to another prepotent line (outcross) they can often "cancell each other out", but when it clicks, it's like Christmas and your birthday all rolled into one!! Love those bitches, and a strong, prepotent foundation bitch is the biggest gift you can get, IMO.

And a double AMEN!

Re: Males and females great producers

While I am sure the breeder of Keepsake Beau Webster is grsteful for your honoring him in this way, it seems as if he is the only dog whose kennel name is not listed. I am sure this was an inadvertant ommission, but in all fairness to Keepsake Labradors, when recognizing Beau Webster his kennel name of Keepsake should also be displayed.

Purely a slip, forgive me.

Re: Re: Males and females great producers

I assumed it was nothing more, but nonetheless felt credit should be given where credit was due.

Re: Males and females great producers

I would also like to make mention of some of the fox red foundation dogs in this country. I realize some people are not a fan of the shade and many judges frown upon them in the show ring (they should read the breed standard), but nonetheless two fox red dogs come to mind that are responsible for some of the top fox red studs today. In particular they are Balrion Red Alert and Kelleygreen's Kardinal. Without these two dogs we would not have Keepsake Brickhouse, CH Keepsake Cajun or Littleriver's Red Headed Stranger.

Re: Males and females great producers

I forgot to mention Keepsake Red Badge of Courage in my last post. He also descends from the same lineage.

Re: Re: Males and females great producers

Bradking Beverly did a tremendous amount for the quality of chocolates in this country. Also, I echo Donalbain Marksman, who arguably, can be found behind an awful lot of the superb chocolates you see today.
