Limps after we play ball

Should a 2 year old limp pretty bad every time we play ball? He starts to limp about 2 hours later?

Re: Limps after we play ball

No he shouldn't. What leg (front/rear) is he limping on? Have you x-rayed him?

Re: Re: Limps after we play ball

It's his left shoulder area it seems and ni I have not had it x-rayed yet. I have only had him 2 weeks and this started this last week.

Re: Re: Limps after we play ball

how are you playing ball? throwing ball low to the ground so they just run after it, or high up so he has to leap off the ground to get it?

Re: Limps after we play ball

I would crate rest him a couple days and see how he is. If not better take him in to a specialist for an x-ray. Good luck!

Re: Re: Limps after we play ball

If you had this dog only two weeks, I would take this dog back to the breeder.

Re: Re: Re: Limps after we play ball

I use a "Chuck It" and throw the ball straight on the ground no jumping or twisting just chasing. This is the second time in 2 weeks he has become so sore he can hardly walk and then I rest him a 4-5 days and we try again with he same result. He's on crate rest now. If this persists he will go back to breeder cause I have only had him 2 weeks.

Re: Limps after we play ball

rather than asking for advice on the forum, may I suggest you call the person you got the dog from and see what he/she thinks?

I use the Chuckit for my dogs as well on grass (I throw like a girl!) and they enjoy the game a lot.

Do check his pads to see if he's a "tenderfoot" and has scuffed them up. Perhaps if he was a kennel dog prior, he's just overdone it?

Any chance this dog has had x-rays at all?
