In checking my boys ears they are clean-no gook, no brown stuff. they do have an odor though. Is this yeast, infection, normal?

we had to switch to a food with NO beef, wheat, or corn.....and ears are much better now.

He is on Solid Gold Millenium. And is doing well except for the odor. They smell dirty, sort of. he hasn't been in mud or water. Should ears have an odor?

Healthy ears do not have an odor. Try a mixture of 1/4 alcohol 3/4 vinegar and swab them out for a few days and then powder them with Gold Bond (generic is fine)medicated powder, that is, unless they look irritated. This is a recipe that my vet gave me. Good luck
