Citric Acid in foods?

I have just purchased the RC Large Breed Starter Puppy Food.
I noticed that one of the ingredients it contains is citric acid.
Was there a thread on here about being careful feeding foods with citric acid?
Something about not wetting it down before feeding? That it has to be fed dry?
This is a problem as of course the puppies will need it to be soaked before eating it.
Any help about this topic would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Citric Acid in foods?

Yes, that's what I have heard too. It had something to do with a bloat risk if water was added to food with citric acid. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I heard it or if there is merit to that claim. Hopefully someone out there will have details.

Re: Citric Acid in foods?

The increased risk of bloat in dogs fed dry kibble with citric acid was identified in the Purdue study of risk factors for bloat, here:

Re: Citric Acid in foods?

I have heard this too and have always fed my dogs (adults as well) with water added so I contacted my dog food company and they say they have never had an incident with citric acid.

Why don't you email RC and see what they have to say. They are quite quick to respond as I use to feed one of their foods and had questions in the past.
