lead thread cross post

For those of you that might not be aware of the lead content in porcelain bowls, here is a cross post from another list:

I just receive this message from another dog list and thought it was worth
passing along. I feed my "flock" in stainless steel, but I do have several
heavy "porcelain" bowls which I"ve used for water because they are heavy and
can't be scooted around or tipped over. Now I"m wondering about those . . .

Anyway, here it is:

"Hello all, I wanted to relate an experience that may help some out there. I
never buy my gangs bowls in the pet department anymore although I used to
years ago, I generally go to the people plate department and buy them bowls
there. Their water bowl is a rather large "mixing" bowl and their food
dishes are
soup bowls. Anyway our local TV station wanted everyone to bring their
children's toys down to have them tested for lead. They were doing this as a
free
service for one day only, so being a dog mom (they are my children, Right?)
I
decided to bring down my dogs toys and bowl's also. Well everything should
test BELOW 600 parts per million. Head's up, the bowls I brought down that
were
actual "Dog Bowl's" tested out to be OVER 13,000 ppm of lead. So everyone
look carefully at what you feed your loved one's from, we don't need to add
to
the burden."

Please feel free to cross post to any lists you are on who you think should
be notified.

Re: lead thread cross post

Thank you, Diane...my neighbor suggested switching to stainless steel for exactly this reason!
