Puppy class versus puppy age?

I read the posts about "finishing from the puppy classes" versus "finishing and still a puppy" and I think this is simple semantics. Yes a true "puppy class" is 6-9 and 9-12 so what is 12-18? Junior dog? Well junior dog/bitch to me = puppy.

In my opinion a dog is very much still a "puppy" up until 18 months of age and hence sweepstakes including that age group. When a dog finishes and is under 18 months of age I consider that finishing while still a puppy.

Re: Puppy class versus puppy age?

I agree and sometimes they are puppy mentality until they are age four or five!!
Since we lack a word for the above 12 month age group, they are still puppy to me to.
Since the Best Puppy award goes to 12 months and under group, the 12 - 18 month olds are excluded from that competition. Maybe we should start a Junior Puppy award for 12- 18 months. Don't the Brits do that?

I'm young at heart -- so do I get to call my self a teenager at 60?
