Pam Rogers of the HSUS has been at work in Frankfort. She has managed to
persuade a legislator to introduce a bill that will regulate breeders of
dogs that are sold in pet stores. This bill also lays the groundwork to
regulate all dog breeders in the state, whether they sell to pet stores or
to pet or show homes. This bill needs to be stopped.
Federal regulations already exist that regulate breeders of dogs for
commercial purposes.
There is no money in the budget to enforce this law.
Those high quality kennels who already provide the best care for their
puppies are the kennels that will ultimately be most negatively affected.
Commercial breeders that sell to pet stores are already regulated. This bill
lays the groundwork to eliminate hobby breeders, and with them dog shows and
the money they bring in to Kentucky.
