SC S833 Tethering bill now includes Crates and pens!!!!!!!!!

South Carolina has amended S833, their original tethering bill, three times
since 3/5/08. It now includes crates, pens, cages or similar confinement and
has changed "dogs" to "animals". Although it uses "cruelty" as a guise, we
all are aware of what those who would see us dogless consider as "cruel".

This bill will set a dangerous precedent for other states proposing "tethering" laws and endangers participants at dog shows as well as the kennel clubs themselves for permitting "crating, caging, penning or similar confinement" that certain groups consider as "cruel" and "endangerment of an animal".

Here is a link to the bill for full text and amendments:

I spoke with several of the Senators today and they are being overwhelmed
with calls, faxes and emails. I also spoke with several hunting/sporting
associations and the Camo Coalition that includes the Wildlife Federation, as
well. The coalition is attempting to compromise and ask for "exclusions" for
hunting, sporting, dog showing events. This is not acceptable and I have told
them that as much as their attempts are appreciated, THIS bill needs to "leave
the building". Those that I spoke to today indicated that this bill may be
read for the third and final time on Thursday.

Please continue the excellent overburden on their offices !!!

Here are the email addresses of those on the Judiciary committee - easy to
copy/paste. Please send an email to OPPOSE S 833 !! Time is of the essence.
