California AB 1634

PLEASE CROSSPOST * * * * *

Per my discussion with Senate Appropriations Committee this afternoon, it is now "confirmed" that AB1634 will be heard on Monday, 14 July 2008.

Note: The bill was previously set for Monday, 4 August 2008. There has been a change in the hearing date!

While Bob Franzoia is the Staff Director for the Appropriations Committee, he is "not" the individual that will be writing and preparing the analysis for AB1634. The Committee consultant that is preparing the analysis is Mark McKenzie.

I was informed today that, since members are working through the weekend, the analysis will most likely be delivered to the member Senators late Sunday.

The Appropriations Committee requests that all letters to the Committee be dropped off to their office (in person) in advance or sent via hardcopy (snail mail). They are not providing a fax number for use.

While the Committee does accept letters, please note that names of individuals and organizations will NOT be listed as opposition (or support). It was explained to me that Appropriations is a fiscal committee and does NOT list names of individuals and organizations on their analyses. However, all letters will be accepted and placed into a folder for consideration.

Therefore, it is imperative that all of the member Senators be contacted immediately via email, fax, or phone so that each Senator will be aware of your opposition!!

Call the Senators' offices!! Have two or three brief talking points ready.

In my conversation with Sen. Simitian's office today, I was informed that "Because of the amendments, the bill is not mandatory spay/neuter anymore." Be prepared to explain the bill when you make your calls to the Senators so that you can respond to comments and misconceptions about the bill!!

Several people have written to me about their confusion regarding email addresses to be used for each member Senator. Some say senator.xyz@senate.ca.gov and some say senator.xyz@sen.ca.gov (please note "senate" vs. "sen"). I telephoned all fifteen (15) offices again today to address this and to confirm email addresses. Please note that even the staffers at the individual offices were uncertain what to use for email addresses. There was no consistency. However, in most cases I was assured that all Senators should be receiving their email at senator.xyz@sen.ca.gov. [My apology that I am not able to answer this more clearly.]

The area code to use is 916 for all phone calls and fax number prefixes.

Should you have any question, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.
