California AB 1634 - Keep up the good work!

This was emailed to me...

We can't get the Cal Channel so we're not able to follow the live session. We understand the Senate had adjourned for the day, so there probably won't be a vote on AB1634 today, unless the President Pro Tem decides to call the Senate back in session later. We left a message with Bill Hemby to check on the context of "on call" in the PetPAC Alert. Have not heard back yet.

We understand from another source that your calls are helping. Thank You Everyone! You helped hold the line for another day.

We hear Levine lobbied hard on the Senate floor today. WE Need to Keep the Pressure up. Keep Calling and Faxing. It's helping. We understand that Diane Amble (wethepeopleusa.us) hand delivered to all the Senators copies of the 500-page Supreme Court ruling that mandatory microchipping is unconstitutional. We have not seen or read the ruling, but given the time crunch, it's good news for our side to point out that yet another of Levine's mandates is unconstitutional.

Alley Cat Allies issued an Action Alert today against AB1634, urging Californians to contact their Senators to oppose it (pasted below.) They believe AB1634 will cause serious problems with managing feral cat populations. Californians - be sure to email or fax a copy of their opposition to your Senators.

Note re: City of Los Angeles MSN - Chicago Dog Owners Beware

It seems all AKC dogs are subject to MSN in L.A. since AKC has not been granted an "approved registry" status for exemption application purposes. More important, it sounds like the AR extremists are going to dictate a "Code of Ethics" for AKC to adopt as a condition for approval. This is yet another example of the consequences of not fighting the AR Extremist agenda.

ACTION ALERT!
Ask your California Senator today to OPPOSE AB 1634

This week, the California Senate is considering a revised version of a mandatory sterilization bill that would unfairly penalize people who care for stray and feral cats.
The revised version of AB 1634 would make it so that anyone who “owns or possesses” an unsterilized cat roaming “at large” could be cited and required to pay a $50 penalty. If an owner or possessor is cited for the same cat a second time, that person would be required to pay for the cat to be spayed or neutered.
AB 1634 threatens to place a tremendous cost on those who care for stray or feral cats, and could even be used to harass those who don’t have the funds for or access to low-cost or no-cost spay and neuter services. Worse, it could discourage people from caring for stray and feral cats at all, leaving more intact cats to breed unchecked and be brought to pounds and shelters where over 70% of all cats are killed.
Many people who care for stray and feral cats have already spayed or neutered them, often at their own time and expense. Alley Cat Allies supports programs that further these efforts, such as partially and fully subsidized spay and neuter services. But we oppose legislation that imposes punishments on those who care for stray and feral cats and puts cats at risk of being killed unnecessarily.
Send a letter to your California State Senator telling them you oppose AB 1634 and asking them to vote against it.
Sincerely,

Becky Robinson, President
