Long Hair and wavy coats

What is this test I have seen on a few stud dog pages for does not carry gene for long hair or coat mean? Is the wavy coat a think of the past now?

Re: Long Hair and wavy coats

No...it is for the long coat gene that produces a long coated Labrador...almost look like Flatties. There are some dogs back in the pedigrees that were known carriers..I am guessing these breeders are testing to see if their boys that are decending down from the known carriers are themselves carriers or clear.

I think Patty @ Gateway has an article on her website.

The gene has been around for a while, perhaps introduced early on in the breed development by the flat coats and/or St Johns dog, there are several examples of long haired labradors showing up...
