MHC Genetic Test

Thought this might be of interest to folks. Finnish researchers have developed a genetic test to determine heterozygosity of the genes in the major histocompatibility complex. These genes control a dog's immune system and when homozygous could increase the risk of conditions such as atopy, hypothyroidism, lupus, and others. It's suggested that breed clubs organize large group submissions to determine what average homozygosity is in a given breed/country.
