Trying to remember the proper way of putting on a show lead. Does the dog wear it with the P-shape loop facing the handler or the loop facing the other direction?
A "P" shaped configuration...when you are facing the dog... will allow the lead to loosen when it is not taught. A "9" shaped configuration will not allow slack....it will stay tight.
I am performance oriented, and want the "P" option.
One article I found referenced the "Dead" loop and the "Live" or "Active" loop. Holding the extra lead/leash in your left hand, the "Dead" loop is the one that slides along the top of the collar when held properly. (The "P" is sideways with the tail or bottom of the "P" in your left hand.)
The "Live" or "Active" loop is the one that is attached to the lead/leash and actually performs the tightening action. The photo on the first link is the best, with your left hand holding the extra lead/leash and the dog facing you. (Your left hand is at the dog's right ear.) Is that clear as mud?
