What to do with....

unused powdered colostrum? I bought some before the pups were born, "just in case" something really bad happened. Happily of course it did not.

So I have an unopened bag of "Immune Milk" by Thomas Laboratories. I have no idea whether it would have been beneficial or not, but at least now I do not have to find out.

Can I sprinkle it on the mom's food? Or on the pups food as they are weaned?

Re: What to do with....

I don't think it will really help. I think the ability to absorb the large molecules that make colostrum beneficial is lost after the first few days of life. It is that way in calves and horses at any rate. Might it also throw off the mineral balance in whatever you wean them onto?

Why not put it in a ziploc and stick it in the freezer for next time? We froze fresh cow colostrum more than once and used it successfully a year or two later, I'd think powdered would keep even longer, though you might want to run that idea by a vet.

You could also donate it to a large rescue or shelter that has to deal with orphan pups.

Glad you didn't have to use it
