Microscopes...what do you use for semen analysis?

In the market for my Christmas gift to myself...a good quality but nicely priced compound microscope. What do you all use to view semen for quality and motility, and how do you like it? I know the specs that I would like, just not sure what brands are reliable and good quality. TIA!!

Re: Microscopes...what do you use for semen analysis?

I have 2 binocular microscopes with good light sources (important)- I think I got them both off of eBay back when I was still in school. My favorite is my Olympus. It is fantastic! Also make sure you have proper cleaning equipment for it (lens paper, etc) and I would look for lenses from 4X to 100X (oil immersion) magnification. Some people prefer a monocular vs binocular, especially if they are trained to look through only one eyepiece (or hold one eye shut), which can save on cost and still lets you get a pretty good look. Also, I rarely use my oil immersion at home- most commonly use my 10X and 40X for semen evals. Just my humble opinion/experience. Good luck!
