Re: NJ Mayor seeks to outlaw new hobby breeders and pet stores

Jersey Girl
I received this today by a cross post. The Brick Township Mayor seeks to outlaw any new breeders or pet stores.

http://tinyurl.com/6o2kqvf

Even one litter of 11 pups (common in medium to large breeds) or kittens would be outlawed. Each offense may draw fine of up to $2000, up to 90 days in jail.
Is that $2K per pup? Would euthanizing any overages keep a breeder in the law, as awful as that sounds? Is that what they want? This is clearly over reaction to a pet store situation they had. Maybe instead of inspecting everyone in the township with an intact pet, they should concentrate on the pet stores. NJ dog clubs, please oppose this. Hobby breeders are the best source of well bred and well socialized puppies, as opposed to puppies trucked in or flown in from who knows where, or what puppy farm. It is not the numbers, it is how the pups are kept and sold.

Please add comments at bottom of article! Most folks are naively lauding the proposal.
