I have an almost 2 year old girl that is yet to have her first season, I know there is no "one size fits all" but it got me thinking about others who have girls that take their own sweet time, her mother was on at 9 months and every 9 months thereafter. Not in any hurry to bred her at all and she will most likey be around 3 if an when I do think about it.

I have one right now that is 19 months old and has not had a heat. I'm a little concerned. I've never had one go past 14 months before.

I know of a specialty winning bitch, from years ago, that never did come in to heat. That would really stink.

I hear more and more about early and late bloomers with 1st seasons. I would recommend if she hasn't come in by 2 you consult with a repro specialist to see if any tests need to be done.

My girls have come in between 11 and 17 mo.'s. They seem to follow some genetics behind them such as Mum or GrandMum.

I haven't seen an 11 mo. have a 1st season in my girls since 1993. The rest range up to 17 mo's when the come in. My most recent girl was 13.5 mo. first season.

I just had one come in at 25 1/2 months. Never had one go past 14 before so it was getting to be a little disconcerting....

Just had a girl whelp last december, 5 and a half years old and had her first heat, decided to mate her thinking she wouldn't actually get in pup, she did, she had a normal pregnacy and a litter 9. But 5 and a half yesr was pushing it.

Well, I can't beat the 5 year old, but I think I come in 2nd with 27 months. Bred her...had 6 pups. She had her next heat cycle 10 months later.

Had a girl who had her first heat at 22 months, and after that she cycled normally at about 6 month intervals until I spayed her at age 8. I only bred her once and she had a litter of 6.

Not as late a bloomer as some, but I've got a girl here who first came in at 19 months, and is currently having her 2nd season ... 13.5 months after the first one.

As many other posters have said, most of our girls cycle between 15-18 months. I did have our foundation chocolate bitch wait until she was 35 months old for her first season - bred her - 12 puppies. She only cycled annually thereafter and each time she was bred had litters of 10+. Her daughters, and grandaughters are also late bloomers and cycle for the first time around 20-24 months. All have had normal litters/whelpings.

I have one girl who had her 1st season at 27 months then every 7 months. I had trouble getting her pregnant. She had her 1st litter at 4 years old. I now have my first Bred-by Champion and she is going on 28 months and no season, all clearances done. Both her sisters cycle normally and started around 11 months. She is related 2 generations back on the dams side to my girl that started at 27 months. I am trying not to worry but starting too.

If you have a late bloomer that is over 2 with all clearances has anyone ever considered ovu-plants to bring them in? We bought a girl from a breeder that was supposedly cutting her numbers. She was three and had never been bred before. We found out why, she never went in heat for us for over a year and a half. Well I felt like someone pulled a fast one on us. Well we contacted our Repro Vet and she suggested us do an ovu-plant. With in ten days our girl was in heat. We bred her and had a litter of 8... Just an option if you want to go that route

Mine are usually 16 to 20 months and I am glad of it as I think they are healthier the longer they wait. My Iris just had a light season at 9 months old and it really kind of freaked me out that she was so early. My oldest first season was 25 months, and like the previous poster she always had nice big healthy litters.

All my bitches are related ( mother, daughters, granddaughters) and have come into heat very close to 12 months. My keeper from my last litter is 20 months and she has not come into heat yet. This is very strange for me as all my girls generally cycle together as they mature. But this little monkey has her own agenda. The others have come in and out with not so much as a slight swelling from her..
I am also trying not to be concerned as I have been told not to think about it until 24 months or so...
I don't know if it's related or not, but she is alot bitchier lately than my other girls and never was as a young pup.. She was always the outgoing, carefree one....makes me wonder about hormones and such!
