select dog/bitch

What does it mean to be a select dog or bitch at Potomac (or any other show)? How does it differ from getting a JAM?

This is the order of importance:

Best of Breed
Best of Opposite sex to the best of breed
Select dog and select bitch
Awards of merit.

Somehow a lot of people think that a JAM is more important than select but it is not!

Maybe it's b/c Select is much newer than a JAM or AOM? I was unaware that 1 is more important than the other. Is that in the AKC rules and where does your information come from exactly? Thanks.

Select winners get points towards their Gr CH title. AOMs or JAMs do not.
