Diabetic Cataract Surgery

Has anyone had surgery performed on a dog who had diabetic cataracts? Interested to hear the outcome from surgery, recovery, etc.

thanks,
michelle

Re: Diabetic Cataract Surgery

I had a diabetic dog suddenly develop a cataract- seemingly overnight. I opted to have it surgically removed by a canine opthamologist and the dog did very well. Recovery was very quick and he had no complications. It wasn't cheap but the look on his face when we picked him up was worth it!

Been there 2 great success worth every penny - both eyes

Re: Diabetic Cataract Surgery

Good to hear. Though it's far more costly then pennies.

$3200-3800 for both eyes.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Diabetic Cataract Surgery

Just a little sticker shock. I thought it would be 2200-2800.

Re: Diabetic Cataract Surgery

$3500 here in Central Ohio about 5 years ago.

Re: Diabetic Cataract Surgery

Sure IS costly. . .
My friend, the board certified human ophthalmologist, with 30 years of experience gets $650 including a lens implant for cataract removal. He said that before health insurance industry impact on doctors' fees, he only got $1900.00.
