I have never used Ivomec on my pregnant girls, but this year there has been a HUGE increase in heartworm in my area and my vet has already seen more cases this summer than all of last year.

I have a bitch who is 31 days pregnant today. I didn't give her a dose last month because she was being bred and missing two months is scaring me with the increased HW outbreaks.

So, is it safe to give to a pregnant bitch??

I discontinue it after a bitch has been bred. My repro does not feel it's safe during pregnancy.

I have her tested at 6 months and start dosing again.

No it is not safe!

FYI, if you are inclined to, Ivermectin IS safe for pregnant bitches.
I have been dosing my girls with Ivomec straight through pregnancy for 15 years.
I have large healthy litters and no issues, including no HW + dogs

My question would be how safe is a pregnant bitch with heart worms ? I am like the long time breeder, we are in the South and I give it year round and to all dogs, bred or not. Ivermectin. And another 25 plus year breeder.

Even when it is said to be safe, I don't medicate or supplement my pregnant bitches with anything including heartworm prevention.
It takes 6 months for the microfilariae (baby worm) to become an adult and cause heartworm decease. Your bitch will be completely fine if you miss 2-3 months of preventative.
