We had an emergency C section today with 6 healthy pups. Mom lost lots of blood and is very tired - first litter. She has no issues with pups nursing but is not doing pee/potty/clean up duty yet (and I don't blame her -she's exhausted!) We've only had one other section in the past 9 years and it was that mom's second litter, no issue with clean up.

So, when mom perks up, will she automatically start cleaning pups? If not, anything I can do to help her take on this duty once she's feeling better?

Ah, at midnight she started licking and fussing and cleaning her little ones. What a joy on her face as she figured out they were hers! Merry Christmas to my first time momma.

I was going to say when she's more rested she should start cleaning and caring for her pups. Glad to see your post. Congratulations and good luck with the pups!
