pancreatitis-need food suggestion

A friend of mine has a 12 year old Labrador, spayed bitch that had a severe case of pancreatitis a couple weeks ago. She spent many days in the animal hospital and is now home and on Science diet . This is costing my friend , an elderly lady $6.00 a day for a food that I don't consider great anyway. My friend will have a very hard time feeding her beloved pet at this price. Does anyone have a better suggestion for a low fat food that would help in this situation?

Re: pancreatitis-need food suggestion

we had an old girl who i cooked for for years with this condtion
1 pound lean ground beef
4 cups of rice
i piece of bread
calcium 500mg (1 tabs)
cook the meat drain the fat, and mix with the cooked rice, bread and crushed calcium. should last a few days depending on the size of the dog
our old girl did very well on this till she past on at almost 15
you can alternate the ground beef with chicken , or turkey ground up no pork though
