update from CKC on entering Canada with Dogs.

Update on Proposed Revisions to the Regulations Regarding Importing or Traveling With Domestic Dogs
The CKC, our members and exhibitors yesterday expressed concern with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s recent revisions to the regulations around Importing or Travelling with Domestic Dogs for Commercial Purposes.

After investigation and consultation with contacts at The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, they have confirmed there were errors on the page. As a result, we believe changes will not affect dog owners and exhibitors that are crossing the American-Canadian border with their dogs. As is current practice, all dogs eight months of age and up only need a valid rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian if they are coming from the U.S.

The errors on the CFIA page that caused concern will be corrected over the coming days. However, we can confirm there will be changes to regulations around Rescued Dogs. After Nov 1, 2013, the - Rescued dogs destined for Animal Welfare Organizations - end-use category (as opposed to individual importers who want to import a dog they have adopted) will no longer exist. Importation of the commercial category of rescued dogs under 8 months of age will not be permitted anymore. Rescued dogs over 8 months of age which are for resale (including dogs for which an adoption fee is required) will be considered as commercial dogs for resale.
