Not all repro vets are equal. Get recommendations from other breeders in your area. Don't just use the one your regular vet recommends. That is what I did for my first AI. It was frozen and done TC. Vet didn't tell me I should really be doing surgical as it has greater success with frozen.
Fast forward 2 years. Same bitch, same stud, frozen semen again. Another vet that was recommended by many people, 7 pups produced. This vet and staff talked to me a lot along the process.
It was all expensive. Shipping frozen semen, all associated progesterone costs (draw, shipping, test), surgical costs.
Would I do it again. Yes, with the right bitch and stud and an excellent vet.
