Two pups, different personalities.

I have two female puppy girls, from different litters. My question is? One is more outgoing than the other. One is a bit shy. Does the shy one become less shy hanging out with the extroverted puppy. Or does the extravert become shy hanging out with the shy girl. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you one and all.

Wondering?

I think if the confident one is truly very sure of herself, she'll pull the shy one her way.

You maybe can glean something from my experience 5 years ago. I had a very shy 18 month old girl (ended back at the breeders due to several issues, but mostly temperament which was poor from day one.) She and a keeper pup were raised together in the house. The keeper girl became quite shy when strangers came over. The shy 18 month old girl literally ran under a bed when new families came. We took both pups out wherever we went, trying to get the shy girl acclimated. We had a behavioral specialist come and give suggestions for the shy 18 month old. We never succeeded with her and she went back to the breeder who had a great older couple from his church who loved to stay home which took her.

The keeper pup slowly but surely came out of her assumed shyness. She showed, titled, placed in obedience and rally competitions and has brought home tons of trophies from 4-H obedience, rally, and agility. Now 5 years later the only shyness we ever witness in the keeper girl is a little less friendliness when at the vet - she's suspicious of all veterinary staff, but still takes treats and wags. No one would notice except us who know she's usually a real people lover. She totally got over her initial poor influence.

Re: Two pups, different personalities.

However, if the extroverted puppy is more dominant than the other one, and bullies the shy one, it can make the shy one even more shy and lacking confidence. So that is something you need to watch out for.

Re: Two pups, different personalities.

In my experience, the shy one becomes dependent on the extroverted one. Not a good thing if you hope to show the shy one. The extrovert always has to be present to give the shy one confidence.

I believe that each dog is individual and have their own personalities, try taking the shy one out a lot and exposing her to a lot of different situations and people and she may just come out of her shell....good luck to you :}
