VETGEN vs DDC

Would like to know anyone's opinion on getting the EIC test and also the DNA testing for coat color. I have used VetGen in the past, but hear a lot about DDC. Are they both reputable and/or is one better for one or the other? Thanks!

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

I believe the U of Minn is the only place you can get EIC done these days due to their patent on the test. DDC no longer runs it.

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

Not true. Paw Print Genetics offers an EIC test and other tests, including PRA. All tests cost $80. Take a look at this list of tests available for Labradors. https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/products/breeds/76/

And check their main webpage to learn more about them and see their credentials. https://www.pawprintgenetics.com/

Their prices are great. How is their reputation for those of you that have used them>

What is the story about testing Labradors for Narcolepsy? I have never heard of a Lab having narcolepsy. Does anyone know more about it?

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

Would be interested to know if anyone has used this company for PRCD tests. Why wouldn't Optigen sue them like they did Ingen?

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

I have used them for the PRCD test for several dogs. I think things have changed since the court decided you cannot patent a gene or something to that effect. Since I am not a lawyer, that stuff goes right over my head, but I am sure that is why PPG can test for PRCD and EIC and other things.

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

Thank you! I have a dog that is cleared by parentage but would like to test her offspring.

Re: VETGEN vs DDC

Actually, there is public information about a couple law suits underway concerning PawPrint tests for EIC and prcd. And, clear understanding of the recent supreme court opinions on DNA patenting do not apply to testing methods.
