Re: shade trees

It really depends a lot on where you live. Fast growing often means more cleanup, as w/poplars.. softer wood, shorter lived, etc. Also how well do you like to rake leaves?

Re: shade trees

Having lived with poplar trees at two places, I would not have them again if it can be avoided. In the spring when the buds "pop" the shells are sticky and stick to feet and coats etc. Horrible messy trees - clean up required all 4 seasons and this is from a hard core gardener!!

Service berry trees grow quickly. Also some varieties of maples. I have used both in my dog paddocks and they took off quickly. Your local garden centre should be able to help you out with this or an arbourist.
