Heartworm is not an issue in my area. I obtained a dog a few months ago from an area that is endemic to heartworm. How long would I need to treat the dog for heartworm?
First you need to test the dog for heartworm. If the dog is clear, you can start heartworm prevention.
Unless you live in an area with NO mosquitos and NO dogs traveling from other parts of the country, your dogs should probably be on heartworm prevention.
