My trainer texted me to say my pup is in season. So I asked if he wanted her to stay home till done.He said no just no water work...I know pyometra is caused from a bacteria just never associated it with swimming?!
Pyometra normally happens in older intact females, not puppies. However, during heat the cervix is open so swimming could introduce bacteria that could cause an infection. I do not swim my girls in heat, and have also quit swimming pregnant ones as well. Just not worth the risk.
