I really enjoyed the article about the inaugural airmail flight on FAM 9 carried out by Panagra in 1929. I am a Panagra "brat", my father being a Panagra pilot and based in Lima, where I was born. A minor correction on the Bliss postcard to his daughter, the object being "passed" at 9:50 was Mount Aconcagua. It is the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere and sits approximately on the Chilean/Argentine border in the Southern Andes. It's summit is 22,834 feet above sea level. I have seen this mountain from "in-flight" many times as a child riding Panagra DC-6's, DC-7's, and DC-8's between Buenos Aires and Santiago. I am also fortunate enough to have been a Braniff pilot and flown all the same routes that the Panagra pioneers flew, albeit at somewhat higher flight levels! Thanks for the article.
