Or at least express your displeasure at the attempt to run dog breeders out of business by all the fees in this bill, and adding to the bureaucracy by creating a whole new "Kennel Authority" instead of using the dog wardens and humane agents already in place.

Also there is a companion bill -- they are putting it through the Senate at the same time as Ohio SB 173.
Please write "Oppose House Bill 223" in big letters at the top of your fax. Be polite in your letter -- most of these representatives think that they are doing something nice for dogs by co-sponsoring this bill. Be clear about what this bill will do to people trying to buy dogs in Ohio.
Here are some talking points:
1. If this bill passes, most of the breeders who are breeding to improve their breed will not be able to afford to continue breeding dogs. About the only place one will be able to buy a purebred dog will be in a petshop. The bill requires $5,000 to $50,000 surety bonds for those keeping more than 8 breeding dogs, plus individual licensing (in Franklin county $24 for EACH dog) plus a kennel fee
2. This bill is dangerous to dogs. The provision requiring water at all times does not allow water to be withheld even on veterinary advice, such as if the dog has pancreatitis, or if it is going to undergo surgery.
3. The bill contradicts existing casual sales tax exemptions. Someone selling even ONE dog in the Sunday paper will need a vendor license.
4. To have more than 8 dogs, you have to be FINGERPRINTED!
