Re: Heat cycle intervals

Take her to your repro vet. There is an injection (can't remember the name) given that can bring her into heat within 30 days. Let her have a litter and she should be normal - unless there's a genetic problem.

Re: Heat cycle intervals

The Ovulplant implant brings them into heat in 3-5 days. I used it on a 2.5 yr old who had never had a heat cycle. Bred her naturally and got 8 pups.

It is now a year later and no heat. We know the parts are there and that they work, but for some reason she hasn't cycled on her own.

Interesting! To be honest, that sounds kind of ideal - a dog who never cycles unless you want them to (I show primarily in Obedience and it would be nice not to worry about missing trials, LOL). I would wonder though if there are any long term health consequences to that situation.

Nothing yet from my girl ... her intact father who I have here has no interest, but he doesn't usually care about the girls until they are in full standing heat anyway, but at training class last night two other intact males were less than impressed as well, so I think it will be a while yet.

I'm nowhere near ready to breed her yet (may never be - not decided 100% one way or the other), it's more that a) I'd like her to settle into a predictable cycle as that would help with planning trials, and b) I want to make sure there's nothing actually wrong with her.

Re: Heat cycle intervals

Dr. Hutch uses the implant and says it is much safer than previous methods. I have friends who have used it to pull a girl in before a big field trial or other performance event so they don't have to scratch.

Re: Heat cycle intervals

Not sure if this is what you mean. I would never use this but everyone dances to the beat of a different drum. I would be very worried about long term effects. I know many won't go to websites so I cut and pasted alot for you. Here is the site also.
